A Note on Neil Gaiman tickets
The Singapore Writers Festival is strictly non-profit and has always tried to keep its events free for the public. In the case of the Neil Gaiman events, free tickets were given out.
It has come to our attention that several individuals are offering to buy or sell these tickets. Any monetary transaction of this sort is not permitted by the Festival, as it goes against one of our basic aims of providing exposure to literature for all.
Any more posts of this sort found on any of our facebook pages or blog posts will be removed immediately.

SWF Welcomes Ma Jian!
SWF 2009 is pleased to announce that celebrated author of Beijing Coma and Stick Out Your Tongue, Ma Jian, will be joining us in this year’s festival.
Ma Jian first came to the attention of the English-speaking world with his controversial story collection Stick Out Your Tongue which depicted traditional Tibetan culture in an unadulterated harsh and inhumane light. His book was subsequently banned in China.
Ma Jian went on to write Beijing Coma, a story on the Tiananmen Square protests seen through the eyes of a fictional character. His novel won mass approval with Tom Deveson of The Times describing it as "epic in scope but intimate in feeling … magnificent" and the Financial Times calling it “an epic yet intimate work that deserves to be recognised and to endure as the great Tiananmen novel.”
Do visit Ma Jian’s bio page for more information on the critically acclaimed writer and check out the programmes page regularly for upcoming details on Ma Jian’s events, as well as other updates.

Chris Pash and The Last Whale
Chris Pash's book The Last Whale re-creates the standoff between the last whalers in Albany, Western Australia, and a group of environmental activists in 1977.
The Last Whale has just been shortlisted for the 2009 Frank Broeze Memorial Maritime History Book Prize, an award named after Australian maritime historian Frank Broeze. Read more about it here.
