SWF invites you to another round of our beloved In A Tiny Room series, a literary gathering in one of Singapore’s beautiful hidden spots. We trace the cultural import of hip hop - from its birth in the fires of the Bronx to its explosive impact on every corner of Asia. Spend an evening in one of Singapore's most charming vinyl stores (records on top, cold beers below) with iconic Hip Hop Historian Jeff Chang as he demonstrates on the microphone and on the decks how hip hop has become a cornerstone of globalisation, and evolved into a powerful political force to be reckoned with. Come for the history, stay for the funky fresh beats.
Charlie Dark MBE will be performing a set after this programme.
This programme is part of the Spotlight on Asian-American Authors and is made possible with the support of the U.S. Embassy Singapore.
Jeff Chang’s Can't Stop Won't Stop: A History of the Hip-Hop Generation was named one of the best U.S. nonfiction books of the last quarter century.
