About

Three 21st century practitioners enter the summoning circle, their chants in various states of ritual and rhythm. What power, they ask, can words give us over our universe?

Uncover the poetry present in incantations, spells, and hexes as these writers reveal how the language of the mystical can be used to reclaim reality.

The summoning spell is now complete.

This programme is made possible with the support of the U.S. Embassy Singapore and includes a live Q&A towards the end of the session.

Zarina Muhammad is an artist, educator, and researcher whose practice is deeply entwined with a critical re-examination of oral histories, ethnographic literature and other historiographic accounts about Southeast Asia. She works at the intersections of performance, installation, text, ritual, sound, moving image and participatory practice. She has been working on a long-term interdisciplinary project on Southeast Asia’s provisional relationship to the otherworldly, spectrality, ritual magic, and the immaterial. Her works have been presented across Asia Pacific and Europe.
