Elizabeth Gilbert brings us into the glitzy world of 1940s' New York in her latest title, City of Girls, in which the protagonist muses, "At some point in a woman's life, she just gets tired of being ashamed all the time. After that, she is free to become whoever she truly is." Is there a line between seeking pleasure and making bad decisions? Meet the author of bestselling memoir Eat Pray Love, as she speaks about writing that celebrates one's agency and freedom.

This programme is made possible with the support of the U.S. Embassy Singapore and includes a live Q&A towards the end of the session.

The creative force behind the radio show, Read with Michelle Martin, she has shared her favourite fiction and non-fiction picks for the last 20 years on-air. Michelle’s lovely conversations have featured a broad range of noted authors including former Singapore President SR Nathan, Hanya Yanagihara, Raymond E Feist, Steven Pinker, and Cyril Wong.
